It’s Time to Stop Chasing Cats: What My Toddler Taught Me About Marketing

Every morning, like clockwork, my 12-month-old embarks on a mission. He toddles around the house, determined to be besties with our cats. He calls for them, reaches out, and follows them into their hiding spots—fully convinced that this time, they’ll finally let him snuggle them.

And every morning, like clockwork, he is completely ignored. Jellybean and Leo take one look at his outstretched hands and immediately skkrrt in the other direction.

It’s a little tragic, honestly. But also? A perfect business lesson.

Stop Chasing People Who Aren’t Ready to Say Yes

When you’re running a business, it’s easy to feel like you have to chase people down. You might find yourself sliding into DMs, cold-pitching, or trying to convince anyone who will listen that your service is amazing.

But just like my kid chasing our cats, you’ll only end up tired and frustrated because:

🐱 They’re not interested.

🐱 They’re actively running away.

🐱 They might eventually come around, but not on your timeline.

So instead of spending all your energy trying to convince people who aren’t ready, focus on creating a space where the right people come to you.

How to Attract the Right Clients (Instead of Chasing the Wrong Ones)

Instead of running after leads that aren’t ready to say yes, put your energy into setting up a brand that attracts them naturally. Here’s how:

Put out content that speaks to your niche.

Your ideal clients need to see themselves in your messaging. The more they relate to what you’re saying, the more they’ll feel like you get them.

Have a clear, enticing offer.

If someone lands on your site or Instagram and has to guess what you do or how to work with you? They’ll move on. Make it stupidly easy for them to say yes.

Optimize your online presence.

Make sure your website is designed to convert, your SEO is solid, and your social media actually shows what you do. You don’t need to be everywhere—you just need to be findable where it matters.

Waiting Feels Scary—But You’re Not Being Passive

I know. It’s hard to trust that people will come to you. It feels safer to chase, to constantly put yourself out there, to be doing something.

But you’re not being passive—you’re being strategic. You’re creating a brand that attracts the right people instead of wasting your energy convincing the wrong ones.

Because when someone is truly ready to invest? They won’t need convincing. They’ll already know you’re the one they want.

(And when my kid finally figures out that the best way to get the cats to snuggle him is to just sit still and wait for them to come to him? He’s gonna feel like a genius. 😂)
